Job Description

Working within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Specialty Diagnostic Group, for the Microbiology Division (MBD), this role provides a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with manufacturing / operations experience who is looking to join a global organisation that supports individuals to develop and achieve their best. The objective of this role is to support the Sr Finance Manager – Europe, Emerging Markets & AsiaPac, in handling manufacturing sites with emphasis on working with the operational and quality teams.

This role will be initially responsible for supporting our Perth manufacturing site with a view to progress towards supporting other sites in the region. The job holder would work closely with the site management teams. This would involve exposure to multiple operational and manufacturing issues within the business that would prepare the jobholder for future career development within Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The role will be based at the Perth facility with an option for hybrid working arrangement for the right person. Occasional travel to other sites may also be required.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Business Partnering with onsite Director of Operations
  • Supporting operations and quality teams as well as Site Lead in terms of business objectives
  • Business partnering with operational management in providing operations accounting, product costing, cost centre review & inventory control
  • Analyse monthly and quarterly performance, with focus on important metrics and variance analysis against Plan, Prior Quarter & Prior Year
  • Handling the overall finances of the operating sites responsible for, including site cost of sales, overheads and inventory management
  • Handle and finalise routine month end and period close financial and reporting processes
  • Assist in financial audits, internal audits and tax reporting processes
  • Structure financial models for capital investment appraisals and support reasons for proposals
  • Continuous Kaizen focus looking for efficiency improvements in the finance function and be the finance Validator for PPI efficiency savings to match against P&L
  • Structure and model, development of annual operating plan (AOP) and periodic forecast requirements.
  • Identify business risks and mitigating opportunities during the quarter to enable the delivery of financial targets in the annual operating plan (AOP)
  • Coordinate the site budget, ensuring funds are efficiently deployed to headcount management, reserves, and indirect costs
  • Engage in ad hoc projects as required


Requirements / Qualifications:

  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified – or international equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, including the ability to successfully connect
  • Great interpersonal skills across sectors and levels (incl. non-finance)
  • Deep knowledge of P&L and working capital drivers within a manufacturing / operations environment
  • Proficient knowledge of Ms Excel as well as US GAAP
  • Track record of delivering excellent results through a cross-functional team
  • Ambition to advance career
  • Experience in SAP, Hyperion and Power BI (preferred)
