Job Description

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that every visitor passing through Godstone Farm enjoys the highest standard of customer experience. They will directly supervise a small team across the Playbarn, Gift Shop and Admissions on a daily basis and as a priority will oversee the safety and cleanliness of all working areas.


Joining Godstone Farm now is a very exciting time, with a brand NEW Playbarn, gift shop and admission kiosks set to open this Summer. We are looking for an energetic and committed individual to assist with the opening of these exciting new attractions, train the teams and set exceptionally high standards for their future operation. You will have the chance to be part of the project and have input into layouts, operational plans and merchandising options. This is a new role so the job holder will really have a chance to develop the operating principles in their areas and there is a large amount scope for future development for the right person.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Act as a role model and lead by example to ensure the highest level of service delivery to both internal and external customers. Recruit, develop and motivate the team to deliver service excellence.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment with robust systems for daily cleaning, deep cleaning and a pro-active maintenance and repair schedule of the buildings.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations ensuring seamless handovers with any other supervisors who may cover on a “duty” basis.
  • Remain within agreed operational budget costs by regularly reviewing key indicators such as staff costs, retail costs of sale, cleaning and maintenance costs.
  • Working with the Food & Beverage Manager to ensure that the Playbarn café continues to operate at an excellent standard with agreed profit margins whilst maximising customer spend opportunities.
  • Maximising profitability of the shop through skilled merchandising, limiting wastage, and strong leadership of team.
  • Supervising the daily admissions operation, ensuring excellent customer service, exploiting up-sell opportunities and ensuring prevention of losses.
  • Liaising with suppliers, making orders, setting margins and reviewing profitability.
  • Training and coaching of team members, including performance management.
  • Work as a key member of the supervisory team attending meetings and where appropriate acting as Duty Manager on a regular rota basis.


Key Requirements

  • A confident and outgoing personality with the ability to work hard and have fun at the same time.
  • Previous operational experience in a commercial and customer facing role is essential.
  • A proven track record in a retail environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Supervisory skills would be highly advantageous.
  • Candidate must be highly literate and numerate, with the ability and interest to learn about other areas around the farm.

Job type:
Permanent Contract. This is a full time role but we may consider part time hours or a job share. Includes weekends and bank holidays. Hours are generally - Winter: 9am - 5pm, Summer: 9am -6pm (1/2 hour for lunch).

Starting at £26,437
