Job Description
The Laboratory IT Systems Manager ensures the information systems used within the laboratory are fit for purpose and support the laboratory to deliver samples to the research community in an efficient manner. They act as product owner across the laboratory information systems to drive continuous improvement and value to the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
Support transformation and ongoing improvement of Laboratory IT Systems;
- Work alongside Head of Laboratory and other key stakeholders, undertake a lab systems transformation (including new LIMS)
- Work closely within the laboratory team to identify opportunities for ongoing improvement to the Information Systems used within the laboratory with a focus on efficiency and user experience
- Ensure laboratory systems meet business needs by delivering iteratively allowing for continuous product refinement and improvement
- Keep up to date with emerging trends within the industry to ensure technology continues to develop and best practices are used in the laboratory
Product owner for Laboratory Information Systems;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to manage and prioritise the product backlog.
- Manage strategic goals, regulatory and statutory requirements, technical needs, and operational improvements to continuously deliver value.
- Interpret and capture business needs and user requirements and ensure delivery by being available for communication with the development team.
- Act authoritatively to prioritise delivery and communicate progress with senior management.
- Liaise with operational laboratory management team to co-ordinate updates to the systems (including supporting user acceptance testing)
- Develop a culture where the internal teams working on and using the laboratory systems feel a sense of shared ownership
Support use of the Laboratory Information Systems;
- Support specification and design of reports and analytics to get maximum value out of the data held in laboratory systems
- Configure systems and processes across the laboratory systems
- Manage operational issues with laboratory systems to reduce dependency on other teams
- Maintain a suitable level of documentation of changes to laboratory information systems for laboratory systems to facilitate usage, operations, support, and maintenance
- Provide product training on the lab information systems, particularly users involved in equipment integration, user acceptance testing, reporting, workflow definition.
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical (i.e. IT/Engineering) or life sciences related field
- Experience working in an IT product related industry / role
- Worked with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels including product users
- Worked in an environment where work needs to be prioritised / value-evaluated
- Experienced in presenting data to add value (ideally used Business Intelligence tools such as powerBI)
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong skills in relationship management and ability to influence
Desirable
- Master’s Degree in a technical (i.e. IT/Engineering) or life sciences related field
- Clinical, healthcare or laboratory industry experience, working with laboratory data / processes
- Worked as a product owner
- Worked in an Agile environment
