This is a rapidly developing service which supports the delivery of holistic, high quality care to surgical patients at increased risk of adverse outcomes.

Successful Candidates will have the unique opportunity to help shape this new service to enable the EPOC unit to become an outstanding new addition to the surgical perioperative pathway.

Main duties of the job

EPOC is a bespoke built unit, comprising of 14 beds cross-site of post-operative patients from a variety of specialties including Maxillofacial, ENT, HPB, Plastics, Gynaecology, Colorectal, Vascular, Upper GI, Urology, Orthopaedics and Thoracics. Patients will be cared for at a higher level of care, 1.5, with a staffing ratio of 1:2. This unit will have input from a variety of members from the Multi-Disciplinary team including Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Acute Pain Specialist Nurses, CCOT and Critical Care Pharmacists.

As a Deputy Team Leader, you will responsible for the day-to-day running of the unit, supporting the band 5s and 2s with patient care and managing admissions and discharges of patients within EPOC. You will liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive the highest quality care.

You will be the clinical experts of your area and lead by example. You will deputise for the band 7 and participate in various link roles within the department. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the Band 7 to continue developing the EPOC service.

This is a cross-site role and you will be expected to work across both sites equally.

We are recruiting knowledgeable and compassionate registered staff to create a team that is dynamic and forward thinking who will have a multitude of skills we require to deliver holistic, safe and excellent patient care at a higher acuity level.

Working for our organisation

Working in EPOC will give you an opportunity to develop your skills around pre and post-operative care, wound and drain management, acute pain and epidural management.

We believe in support and development of all our staff. If you are successful in your recruitment, we will offer an individualised training and support package and you will go on a local, surgical and corporate induction programme with opportunities to go on a pain management course, tissue viability and wound management course, supervisor training, link role training and the opportunity to join our already established Shared Governance council.

You will be provided with a Band 6 development package to work through in your own time. Various training courses will be provided to encourage your development.
