What’s the role?

UKCaravans4hire, part of Forge Holiday Group, have a brand new opportunity for an experienced Front End Developer to join our growing technical team based in Huddersfield (HD2).

Reporting to our Senior Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining responsive, user-friendly and visually appealing web and mobile applications for our holiday homeowners and online guest & staycation bookings, using modern front-end technologies. You will collaborate with designers, back-end developers to ensure a seamless user experience and efficient workflow. You will be expected to stay up-to-date with the latest front-end technologies and best practices, and to provide recommendations to improve the development process.

From day one, you will work closely and collaboratively with leaders and other subject matter experts within the Technology team, including our Senior UX Designer, UKcaravans4hire.com team and across the wider Forge Holiday Group companies to build effective partnerships and drive solutions that meet the needs of both the user and the business.

As our Front End Developer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain user-friendly, responsive websites, web applications and mobile applications using modern front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
  • Collaborate with designers, back-end developers to ensure a seamless user experience and efficient workflow.
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to turn their designs into fully functional web pages, and suggest improvements where necessary.
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Optimize websites and applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues with existing applications.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest front-end technologies and best practices, and make recommendations to improve the development process.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.

The role is hybrid working between home and the office with an expectation that you will work from our Huddersfield office a minimum of one day each week (or additional days if your preference) and for group collaboration, workshops, in-person meetings and connecting meaningfully with your colleagues.

In addition to this, you will have:

  • Strong experience in front-end development (ideally, a minimum of 3 years’ experience).
  • Strong proficiency in modern front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with server-side languages.
  • Knowledge of templating libraries such as TWIG/BLADE.
  • Experience working with front-end build tools such as Webpack, Gulp, SASS and Grunt.
  • Experience working with version control systems such as GIT.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Awareness of Cross-browser compatibility and web accessibility.

It would be highly advantageous if you have:

  • Familiarity with jQuery
  • Knowledge of PHP/Laravel
  • Knowledge of API's, REST/OAuth/ GraphQL
  • Knowledge of TypeScript and ReactJS
  • A relevant professional qualification at degree level (or equivalent)

As this is a Hybrid role, it’s important that you live within a realistically commutable distance to our office in Huddersfield (HD2).
