Job description
At the Environment Agency we protect and improve the environment, acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife. We’re investing £5.2bn to reduce flood risk to hundreds of thousands of properties across the UK by 2027.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support the management of our ambitious programmes.

This role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills, and you can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Driving projects forward to delivery, identifying & advising on risks, issues, and opportunities.

  • Helping to develop integration across disciplines, through developing and planning programmes of work.

  • Ensuring projects report on multiple benefits, including properties, efficiencies, carbon reduction, programme performance and
environmental enhancements.

  • Providing regular, accurate and timely updates on progress, preparing, and delivering reports and presentations for internal and external
customers.

  • Developing and improving data quality performance across projects through current and new systems.

  • Identifying and embedding new ways of working across Area teams, including training.

The Environment Agency takes part in incident response. Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
The Programme Team tracks spending, delivery, and performance in completing programmes to manage flood risk. We advise on the status of the programme, risks, and opportunities. This role is key to understanding our programme, delivered by a range of different teams. We also supply information to national teams and the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee, and brief communities, politicians, and partners on progress.
Experience/skills required
Through your experience to date, we are seeking somebody who.

  • Has the ability to manage and interpret large, complex datasets, particularly in Microsoft Excel.

  • Can identify clear narratives from data and information.

  • Will provide technical leadership, delegating, mentoring, and supporting tasks as required.

  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, developing and maintaining strong relationships with a variety of customers.

  • Is able to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

  • Has experience in programme, project, or asset management.

Please do not be put off from applying if you do not have experience in Flood & Coastal Risk Management. The key things we are looking for are transferrable skills, energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.
Contact and additional information
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce which reflects the communities we serve.

This vacancy is a permanent role based in Lincoln, Peterborough, or Kettering, although other EA office locations can be discussed. We are adopting new ways of working which allow some flexibility to work from home.

Please note your answers to the capability questions will be used to determine interview selection.

If you have any questions, please contact Mark Bowlt at mark.bowlt@environment-agency.gov.uk or tel: 07879430421.
