SSG strives to provide High Quality Security Solutions to protect sensitive assets within the Ministry of Defence and the wider UK Government Estates both within the UK and Overseas,

Summary of the Role
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of in-depth independent unbiased technical security advice to MoD and Central Government/OGD (Other Government Departments). This includes detailed guidance as well as converting user requirements into technical specifications and undertaking system audits, site surveys & RIBA 2, 3 & 4 design reviews.
This role requires travel across the UK and occasional overseas visits, including overnight accommodation.

Job Description
As a technical security advisor, you will be providing detailed technical advice on electronic security products and designs, systems and materials which provide suitable level of high security protection to British Standards, NPSA (Previously known as CPNI) & JSP's. The role will require travel across the UK and from time to time overseas for short periods.

You will be supported with a mentor where required and work alongside your colleagues in the Protective Security Advisory Team (PSAT). We’ll support and encourage you, helping you to become a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Protective Security as part of our world-class security team.
You’ll have a lot of freedom and autonomy, working closely with colleagues and we’ll trust you to decide the best way to get things done; whether something requires high quality or a quick turnaround; how best to organise yourself as part of a group and importantly, how best to meet the needs of our customers within MOD, Other Government Departments and the wider Critical National Infrastructure.
Above all there will be a strong purpose to your work as a technical advisor in SSG, you’ll be central to our capability as the supplier of choice for high security protective security solutions and advice to protect Defence and key government departments. Person specification

Role:
  • Possess in-depth technical security knowledge and experience of minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of security system installation and/or design. This can be in the primary field of physical (Barriers/Structures/Locking-devices/Doors/HVM) and secondary field of electronic security (IDS/PIDS/SMS/CCTV/VSS/AACS/System Integration).
  • Excellent communication skills: Provide customer interface and represent SSG at high level external meetings. Undertake complex discussions and negotiations with SSG Project Managers and Client Security Officers for Key Project accounts.
  • Present focussed technical security training for SSG’s staff and external clients.
  • Have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a small team.
  • Have financial management skills: estimating, job costing, invoicing and budget management.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to work and a willingness to attend site meetings and other locations when necessary.
  • Applicants must hold a Full UK driving licence.
  • Be willing to undergo Developed Vetting clearance.
  • Working knowledge of British, European and Government Standards relating to security together with knowledge of QA and H&S policies.
Leadership and Management.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the DIO SSG Principles
  • Responsible for developing and enabling the SSG PSAT to deliver targets and goals
  • Promote strong working relationships both within SSG and with other stakeholders across SSG, DIO, MoD and OGD.
Project Security Advice.
  • Developing and maintaining engagement with stakeholders relevant to the Project Plan
  • Ensure stakeholders are kept informed and willing to support delivery activity.
  • Close liaison with other members of the PSAT together with SSG Ops, SSG’s clients and system manufacturers & installers.
  • Management of PSAT projects. The work being undertaken to the timescales and budgets agreed with the PSAT Team Leader.
  • Provision of detailed design and guidance on the deployment and use of protective security measures. The incumbent will focus on physical measures including Barriers/Structures/Locking-devices/Doors/HVM or electronic systems including IDS, PIDS, SMS, AACS, CCTV/VSS and System Integration with an expectation of the successful candidate will have knowledge of one or both physical and electronic discipline with aspirations to develop a full protective security SME knowledge in the long term.
  • Undertake verbal, written and visual presentations (reports) covering technical security requirements to SSG staff and SSG’s clients.
  • Accomplished with/understanding of technical drawing & photographic software (Aspirational).
  • ICT proficient user skills of MS Office & Project Management / Finance based applications.
  • Engage with standards setting bodies and clients to encourage awareness of the government and industry requirements, influencing where possible, to benefit SSG and its clients in government. Promote SSG through professional representation.
  • Audit of installed systems covering commissioning, handover and reviews.
  • Ensure that the work undertaken by both themselves and their team is done in a safe and secure manor, meeting all Health & Safety Regulations and Environmental Standards.
Supporting Organisational Change
  • Stay current with security technology products and standards.
  • Support to DIO Change Programmes and Initiatives to identify and manage any SSG associated risks and opportunities.
  • Support SSG assurance in continuing improvement programs.
Other Tasks
  • Other tasks as required to support SSG PSAT in the delivery of its services and priorities.
  • Keep up to date with Department and DIO policies, processes and best practices.

Desirable Experience & Skills

Experience in physical & electronic (desirable) security in the MoD & OGD environment with knowledge of British Standards, NPSA and JSP documentation. A good strong technical background in electronic security & communication topology including a good understanding in IP Network and equipment.

Additional accreditation through RSES, Security Institute or other (equivalent or relevant to the post) Professional Bodies.

Environmental Factors:
A requirement to have an understanding of CDM, H&S SMSTS, Asbestos with the requirement to obtain a certification in the aforementioned safety topics. L so one working maybe required from time to time, so the requirement to create and manage RAMS will need to be in place and adhered to.
