Job Description

My client is an established Cheshire based law firm that covers both personal and commercial law, and they have an opportunity for an experienced Corporate Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their team at their Stockport office.

The role is intended to provide direct support and assistance to the Class A Partner, Fee Earners and the wider Corporate team, and to assist with certain elements of fee earning work under supervision.

It may be necessary to provide support relevant to the role for other Legal Departments as needed.

The employee is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative to facilitate the smooth running of the department including drafting documents and administrative tasks as required.

Key responsibilities (not an exhaustive list)

  • Deal effectively with clients and third parties over the telephone, in written correspondence and face to face, in an efficient and friendly manner, and to provide accurate advice and assistance, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible service at all times.
  • Conduct matters under the supervision of the Partner or Fee Earners on behalf of clients accurately, reliably and in accordance with the firm’s quality and risk management procedures (Lexcel and SRA Code of conduct).
  • To generate fee income and ensure proper control of time recording, work in progress, billing and cash collection in line with agreed targets unless exceptional circumstances apply.
  • Deputise for fee earners in their absence, passing urgent issues to another senior fee earner for guidance and support fee earning work undertaken by colleagues when required.
  • Prepare documentation as required including the drafting of legal documents, correspondence and files through the case management system.
  • Manage new and existing documentation in both paper and electronic form which may include filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the procedures contained in the office manual.
  • Attendance and participation at group meetings as required.
  • Gain and maintain good IT and telephone skills appropriate to modern legal practice; such as the ability to use the case management system and other standard applications, record time, use e-mail, use printing and scanning facilities, conduct research on the internet and the phone system.
  • Assist with any other administrative duties required to assist your team and other teams should the need arise. Skills & attitude

  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use initiative independently and be proactive where appropriate.
• Strong administrative skills gained in an office environment, including Microsoft office suite. • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Experience of using a case management system.

A minimum of 4 years solid work experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal preferably within a Corporate Team is sought for the right candidate with salary being competitive dependent on experience.
