Job Description

Social Work England are the specialist regulator for social work in England, focused on enabling positive change in social work. Every day, social workers support millions of people to improve their chances in life. We are taking a new approach to regulating social workers in their vital roles. We believe in the power of collaboration and share a common goal with those we regulate – to protect the public, enable positive change and ultimately improve people’s lives.

Case examiner operations officers will manage a personal caseload; allocating work to our independent decision makers – the case examiners – and providing updates and case outcomes to external parties. They will take responsibility for ensuring the quality of cases referred to the case examiners, referring cases back to the investigators where required and contributing to wider learning and development.

They will provide initial guidance and procedural support to the case examiners and respond to queries raised by social workers, complainants, and the public.

What you will do

  • Manage an independent caseload, and support colleagues where required, with responsibility for: supporting the risk-based prioritisation of the caseload, the allocation of work to the case examiners, supporting the management of conflicts of interest, the drafting of tailored correspondence sent to social workers and other external parties, and the recording of accurate information in the case management system to support management reporting.
  • Act as a point of contact for case examiners and other fitness to practise teams; liaising between these where required to manage requests for further information and submissions, referrals to the adjudicators, and any other issues that arise.
  • Provide initial advice and guidance to the case examiners, social workers and other external parties. Required to identify and break down the issues, problem solve and propose solutions with reference to the regulations, rules and guidance. Tailor correspondence depending on the nature of the issue, any individual sensitivities, and the intended audience. Escalate complex queries to the case examiner operations manager where required.
  • Review cases referred by the investigators to ensure that they’re of an appropriate quality to be ready for consideration by the case examiners. Where necessary, refer cases back to the investigators.
  • Support the case examiner operations manager in quality assuring decisions reached by the case examiners.
  • Contribute to the identification of trends and support the delivery of learning and development to the investigators and case examiners where required. For example, assist in the preparation and delivery of monthly development workshops for the case examiners.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures and template correspondence and contribute to projects and research.
  • Keep abreast of the regulatory landscape and support the improvement of processes and guidance in line with best practice.
